Up for sale, a 1989 Fender '52 reissue Telecaster model TL52 in excellent condition and in perfect working order! This early Fender Japan guitar was built in the famed Fujigen factory and features a nearly unknown yet documented finish known as "Charcoal Burst" (abbreviated CCB). It's essentially a classic Butterscotch that's been roasted, and each one is individual with darker, lightly burned streaks running through the ash and highlighting the grain. The guitar is topped off with a high gloss finish and the Charcoal Burst option was only available in very small quantities from 1988-89!
Built exclusively for the Japanese market, this "Made in Japan" guitar was crafted at a level that provides stiff competition for Fender's American Vintage series instruments. Using a premium ash body with incredible grain in the wood and a one-piece maple neck, this guitar truly delivers on its promise of classic Tele sparkle and twang through your favorite tube amp. Fat and throaty in the neck position, chimey and cutting in the middle, and aggressive in the bridge position, this guitar covers all the important Tele bases! The instrument weighs 7lbs 4oz, and is particularly loud and authoritative acoustically. Professionally setup her at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, 11-50 strings, and solid intonation, this Tele looks the part and sounds fantastic. The maple neck has a comfortable slender C profile that has just enough depth and roundness in the shoulders. The original vintage-style frets show notable wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6, with fainter wear on the crowns of those same strings until roughly fret 9 and virtually no wear further up the board. The guitar plays cleanly in all positions with no buzzing or dead spots, and the neck is arrow straight with a responsive truss rod. The neck has the standard 25 1/2" scale, with a 1 5/8" nut width, and vintage 7 1/4" fretboard radius. The headstock sports a set of original Kluson style Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the heel of the neck, the guitar has a pencil date of 1-30-89, a detail that mimics the earliest Fender Teles and is only seen on the first years of Fender Japan guitar production. The ash body has the aforementioned Charcoal Burst finish, showcasing the prominent grain of the wood below and accented by a one-ply black pickguard. All of the electronics work as they should with flat alnico pole pieces on the bridge pickup and a three-way blade pickup selector wired to original potentiometers. The vintage style bridge has three aluminum saddles and the chrome hardware is particularly clean on both the control plate, with some surface patina on the bridge. Cosmetically, this guitar shows an assortment of small finish nicks, mostly relegated to the back and on the bass side of the top near the forward strap button. Overall the guitar looks the part of a vintage Tele and functions exactly as it should, with a sweet, soulful tone.***We are dealers for the Mastery Telecaster bridge and Lollar Telecaster pickups, either or both of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
