Description
Brand: Leedy Exact Year: 1928
Banjo Type: Open Back or Resonator Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Number of Strings: 5 Era: 1928

This banjo began life as a 1920s Leedy four-string banjo, as used for typical orchestras at that time. It was converted by myself ten years ago to a 5-string banjo, using inlaid neck and resonator acquired here on eBay, the 5-string conversion works very well, has perfect intonation. The Leedy is a top-tension style of banjo, it has a very strong stainless steel pot. This is a LOUD banjo, has a very distinct sound due to all of the metal in the top-tension pot. It is heard very well in group settings. Compare this to listing ID 162082028867, Banjo-Pre-War-1920s-tenor-5-string-conversion-Leedy-Presentation, an absolutely professional 5 string conversion of the same 1920s Leedy tenor banjo. You will find the price wanted here surprisingly better! If that is not enough, this banjo has been electrified with a "Pick Up the World" piezzo pickup, which resides under the head right at the bridge. This pickup is best used with a pocket style pre-amp, such as the GigPro, the banjo will then plug into any amp, for use in electric or other noisier groups. A standard 1/4" phono jack on the tailpiece is all wired and included. The banjo head is REMO Fiberskyn synthetic, long lasting and durable. I have loved and played this banjo for many years now, I play in the open-back frailing style mostly, but the resonator is there for other styles as well. A hardshell banjo case is included. "Leedy" brand is painted on the case. This case however only fits the banjo when in "open back" mode, if the resonator is attached the banjo will not fit in the case, you need to transport the resonator separately. A good bluegrass banjo case will probably hold the banjo with the resonator attached. The banjo has an HO railroad spike installed to allow instant tuning of the G drone string to A for playing in keys of A, D or F.
