Up for sale is a vintage Ludwig “Downbeat” kit wrapped in sparkle blue pearl. Drum sizes are 8x12, 14x14 and 14x20. Consecutively numbered Keystone badges indicated this is a factory matched set. The 12" KB# is 495XXX; the 14" KB# is 496XXX; and the 20" KB# is 496XXX, which dates this set around June 1967 (none of the drums have date stamps on the white interiors, however). All drum shells are 3-ply with re-rings and are all in very good to excellent overall condition. Chrome hardware is bright and shiny with minimal pitting, but the rings on the 14" probably are not Ludwig and have some minor rust areas. Some tension rods are also not Ludwig. The wrap is very tight and the color is very vibrant with minimal fade, There is a small area of snare rash on the top panel of the bass drum where some of the underlying white sub-wrap is exposed. Wraps on the other drums are pretty much blemish free aside of maybe one small scratch or two. The bass drum hoops are complete with inlay all around and have about 98% of the original black paint intact. One hoop is slightly warped. The bass drum has the clock-face dial on the rail console and a pair of fold-down spurs. The heads fit snugly on the bass drum, but it appears in-round. Both toms sport the period correct white felt baseball bat-style mufflers, and the floor tom sports the 17” “shorty” legs. Bearing edges are all fine. This set is in pretty good shape, overall.
