A Model 16 full double F/Bb French Horn, made by the Herbert Fritz Knopf company of Markneukirchen, Eastern Germany.
These are all hand made, and aimed at the professional player, though a wonderful choice for any amateur, of course. They blow superbly.
This one is in good condition, especially given its age. Brand new ones cost a small fortune, of course, being entirely hand made.
It is dent-free, a few very small dings remain, but nothing of substance.
The rotor valves move smoothly and the slides all slide nicely. I have given it a good service before listing. There is a small amount of end plate movement on the trigger valve, but it moves freely and smoothly, and has never once stuck. At some stage in would benefit from being rectified by a horn professional repairer, it would cost in the region of £50/£70.
The instrument is brass, silver plated. The plate was tired and rubbed in the expected places. I have had this professionally re-plated, it now looks much better, very presentable. Some plate wear and tarnish remains, but not much. Please inspect the photos carefully to see exactly how it looks. The photos were taken in natural light.
The price asked reflects the cosmetic appearance of the horn,a pin-perfect used one would cost well over £2000, and they are rarely offered for sale.
The mouthpiece is a Gewa 11, and I think it suits this particular horn very well. It is a pro-level mouthpiece. The high register is clear and refined, all registers work well.
The case is a BRAND NEW Gear4Music one, light and well padded. It fits this instrument really well.
Any inspection is welcome, of course, prior to buying, at my home in Bridlington East Yorkshire YO16 6YU.
