With the MA-301, Mojave has taken the highly musical and transparent MA-201, and added a remote-controlled, continuously variable pickup pattern selector, 15dB pad and a switchable bass roll-off. The MA-301 is built with a hand-selected 3-micron capsule, high-quality Jensen audio transformer, military-grade FET, and custom designed low-noise resistors. Once again, David Royer has created a mic that has the warmth and musicality of classic microphones, with a sonic signature that is all its own. This is a true workhorse condenser that will respond faithfully and musically to almost anything you throw at it. While the benefits of a 15db pad and bass roll off are obvious, one may not realize the benefits of continuously variable pickup pattern selector. From the power supply, you can go from an omni-directional response, to cardioid, to hyper-cardioid, to figure-8, and anywhere in between. We loved experimenting with this unique option, because depending on your sound source/room acoustics, the different polar responses can deliver different results. You not only hear room reflections in varying amounts and ways, the response of the sound source itself is subtly transformed as you turn the dial between patterns.
