1934 is the only year Gibson made the L50 in this shape - introduced in 1932 it had a shrunken dreadnought shape with a central sound hole, and by 1935 the body widened and had F holes - the 1934 model had a more traditional L00 style shape with arched top and central sound hole. Because the guitar has archtop style bracing rather than X bracing that you'd find on an equivalent flat top, the guitar has a very distinctive sound - very bluesy but with more punch around the mid range. It's very unusual to find a guitar of this age in all original condition, particularly with such a beautiful looking faded sunburst. The guitar's in very good shape after 81 years of play, two repaired top cracks, and several repaired back cracks, plus a missing back brace which doesn't affect the stability of the guitar. The neck has a very comfortable V profile, and the action is surprisingly low for an archtop of this age, very playable., and the intonation is spot on. The guitar comes in a non original hard case.
