I bought this new in July 1991 when I fell in love with it in the shop, exactly 25 years ago. An incredible sampler, incredible journey. It's served its time but has many many more years to go. This is an entire workstation and a really 'musical' instrument - a unique, powerful, and amazing creative tool.
I've been using this practically everyday as my main tool for 25 years professionally with absolute reliability and completely problem-free. The last time was about 9 months ago when it was the basis of a new record, but in recent years I've been much less active. Ironically I just switched it on now to take some pictures of it in order to sell it and downsize my studio, only to discover that the keyboard failed to calibrate during the boot-up process due to a couple of stuck notes. It has literally never done this in over 25 years of use! The mod wheel and pitch wheel also seem to be not working, although they've worked throughout the entire time I've owned it, since 1991, until the time I last used it 9 months ago. I can only presume that dust has got to it in the last year as it's sat unplayed on a keyboard stand in the corner of a loft for 9 months. It probably needs to be opened up and a couple of contacts cleaned and connectors deoxidised. Other than that it is still functional of course, but I don't have time to give it the attention it needs and sort it out. I have no reason to suspect anything serious, but please bear this in mind. If the two stuck notes are caused by anything more than just dust the only thing they will be is a couple of FET switches (there is one of these under each key of the keyboard), and I'm told they are just £1 each to replace, so that's the worst case scenario. Likewise, if cleaning the mod/pitch wheels doesn't fix that my Ensoniq expert tells me it'll be the 4051 multiplexor chip that needs replacing. These are about 10p each and widely used, so again, cheap to resolve: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Analogue-multiplexer-demultiplexer-IC-HEF4051-SOP16-CD4051BM-SMD-8-channel-K0-/181407680031Anyway, enough prattling on from me. It's genuinely a magnificent instrument when fully operational, so much more than just a sampler. Hopefully it will go to a good home and continue to rock the world for another 25 years.
