Sonor Vintage 1960s D-426 Brass Snare - EXCELLENT!
Estimated price for orientation: 570 $
Category: Snare Drums
Class:
Description Brand: Sonor
Vintage Sonor 1960s D-426 14 x 5 Brass Snare. This was billed as the 'King of Snares' by Sonor at the time of manufacture, and it's easy to see why. In my humble opinion it ranks with the very best that Sonor have ever produced. Beautifully designed, silky smooth parallel action, chunky rims (that sit right down on the shell) and a VERY HEAVY brass shell (I've got a Ludwig Black Beauty and it's much heavier than that). All this makes for a drum that's extremely crisp and articulate and is perfect for a wide range of applications, as well as being a pleasure to use. These don't come up very often; I have an old Sonor kit I am currently refurbishing so I need to shed some gear. This drum is in very good condition, with some minor wear and tear on the chrome, particularly on the rims, but nothing very noticeable (please take care to examine the pics - I have taken it from every angle). The shell itself is in fantastic shape, and the action is as smooth as a baby's....well you get the idea. Everything is original with the exception of the snare wires. They don't make the wires any more, so (as recommended by the Sonor museum), it is best to fabricate small spacers which will then allow for modern wires to be used. These have been professionally made in aluminium, there are NO additional holes in the drum, and it works just great. Oh, and I have just fitted new heads top and bottom. One of the best snares ever made - be quick. FREE Postage to US, Canada, UK & Australia!(Others, please contact for quote).
Check out my other listings as I am selling off some great vintage gear to finance restoration projects! Snare stand not included in sale and used for display purposes only.
