Cello mandolin custom made to my specification by David Oddy, Exeter, UK in April 2000, serial number 0100255. Constructed using East Indian rosewood back and sides and Sitka spruce front with abalone decoration around the sound hole. The neck is mahogany inlaid with pink rosewood, the fingerboard is ebony and the headstock is faced with ebony and fitted with Grover tuners. The whole instrument has a gloss varnish finish. The saddle is ebony and the bridge and nut are carved bone. After more than 16 years, the instrument has matured very well and sounds rich and tonally well-balanced. There are a few minor scratches on the surface of the varnish around the sound hole (probably from plectrum strumming) and I've tried to show these in one of the photographs. Other than that, the instrument has been well looked after and is in excellent condition. The body has been pre-drilled ready for an under-saddle pickup but none is currently fitted. I'll also includes a Hiscox Lifeflite hard case. If you've not come across this type of instrument before, have a look at Steve Knightley / Show Of Hands on YouTube for an expert demonstration of its capabilities. You're very welcome to come and try it out beforehand or if you're thinking of buying but want to ask some questions first, please call on 07471 226764. I have advertised elsewhere so I hope you'll understand if I find another buyer and have to end the listing early. UK bidders only and cash on collection preferred, please.I'm very, very sorry to let it go but I need the cash. I do have another one I won in a raffle, so don't feel too sorry for me :-) A new "standard" David Oddy cello mandolin will set you back at least £1,250 so grab yourself a bargain and save yourself the 3-4 month wait while its being built.
