ALTEC 438C this auction is for 1 x Altec 438c. this unit has been modified to the RS124 circuit also known as "The Beatles mod". Follows the RS124 core mods but without the hold switch and stepped output attenuator. an attack control is added along with an output control. the later green colored 43x models came with a threshold control, the Beatles units did not. instead they modded the input pot which determined threshold. attack and release are continuously variable, the Beatles had stepped controls. this unit has extensive control over the signal. i've used this unit on many mixes for many famous artists (look me up:-). amazing on drums, guitars, vocals, etc. really versatile on anything you put in. i'm not sure what the Beatles one sounded like so i really can't compare but i love what this compressor does. before the mods, it was more or less uncontrollable and i had to be careful how much level went in, otherwise i would get the "spitting" sounds. i used it mostly for tone on vocals or acoustic/electric guitars but i couldn't get any good drum compression at all but after the mods, this became a parallel drum compression killer! you will not be disappointed. this sale is for the bottom unit in the photo. this is as good as your gonna get for a 43x model. cosmetically it's in EXC condition considering it's age. performance is mint. i do hate to part with this but i need to downsize a bit...i have a lot of gear. probably be selling other stuff soon...Expedited shipping upon buyers request. please email me with any questions.International buyers must email me before buying.
