I HAVE MANAGED TO CLEAR THE 5th STRING TUNNEL THANKS TO A PROMPT BY A QUESTIONER .THIS IS WHY I HAVE ADJUSTED THE PRICE , STILL MUCH LESS THAN I PAID FOR IT .Jimmie Edwards was a banjo player , teacher and maker who lived in Ilford , not to be confused with the moustachioed comedian .He designed and built his own banjos in the 1920's/30's and in 1939 had Jack Abbot build one for him . The build quality is superb and the design of the peghead is typical Abbot so I reckon this is the one . It has Jimmie Edwards ILFORD stamped on the side of the neck . I have never seen another Jimmie Edwards banjo so any more information them or this one would be welcome .It looks like a zither banjo but the back is reccessed back up the sides to accomodate sound holes , the vellum head is 10 inches in diameter . To me the way it is made is a work of art , beautiful simplicity and oozing quality . And the sound , lovely pure banjo tone with plenty of volume . It has a comfortable , easy action off a 1/2 inch bridge .I don't know what his secret was but for me this is pure magic , nothing like a zither in sound and competing favourably with plectrum banjos in every department . The general condition is excellent , just a few small dings , the original pancake tuners work perfectly . This is a super-quality , rare instrument . It comes with a nearly new-condition , plush-lined , hard shell case . Collection is an option .
