For Sale my 1973 Gibson J-160e. This J-160e was a players Guitar. In 1970 I was to leave for US Navy Recruit Training, but the day before I sat in Northland Music in St Louis Missouri. I needed to clear my mind so I picked a Gibson J-160e off the wall and played for what had to be 4 hours or more. Ever since I had always wanted one but the price for was just too much. I found this one for sale last year. So I bought the guitar knowing it had some major issues. Even with the problems, when I picked it up to play the full tone was still there. I did the beginning of Norwegian Wood, Then Black Bird and other Beatles music which put a huge smile on my face. I had to have it.   The issues are: It has the marks and worn spots but no holes of being played. It has a worn spot on the lower area of the Sound Hole. I do have a picture of this. The action in my opinion needed adjustment. The Bridge was beginning to pull up. At some time, it had a re-fret, but done with a Narrow Fret, defiantly not like the original. It comes with the Original Hardshell Case. The Case has no identifying information so I am “Assuming” it is a Gibson Original but it does have the patina that would be from the period same as the Guitar. I have a Brand New Gibson Case that is for the J-160e which also fits a Gibson J-45. If you buy the Guitar I will give you the Option of either one but there will be added cost of $100.00 more than the winning price for the new Gibson Case. That is a Discount from the Cost of a New Gibson Case. One or the other, you get only one case. So I had the problems fixed at J Gravity Strings in St Louis. Refer to the image of the receipt. I spent $556.30 for a Re-fret with the original spec frets which were Professionally Dressed, Bridge re-set, Neck Re-set and a complete Action set up. The Body is not bowed at the Bridge. This guitar plays like Butter. Beautiful sound perfect action well worth the money spent. It took 2 Months as J Gravity Strings is the top repair location in the Mid-West. Each year they repair anywhere between 1800 to 2000 guitars. Not only are they in the repair business, but they also perform modifications, customizations, and build custom guitars. Gravity's signature work has been performed for names like Pete Townsend, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Tom Petty, Eddie Van Halen, and many others. Except for the marks and Dings it plays like a New Gibson. There was a question of the exact date but somewhere between 19733 –1975. I had the date verified with the Pots as a 1973. The Electronics’ with the P90 Pick up are perfect. No issues with it. There is always the stigma of buying a guitar with any work done on the neck, not including re-fret. I have it. I refuse to ever buy a guitar with a Headstock Break fixed. But with the work I had done this guitar was brought back to life at a reasonable cost well worth it. It took me a few months to decide to have the neck re-set for that very reason. But after getting the Guitar back I am so happy I do go forth and have it done. The sound is Full with that very familiar Beatles sound. I understand now why most of the Music Library from the Beatles was done with a J-160e including most all of the recordings. The Guitar is all Original with the exception of the Bridge Pins and the Truss Rod Cover. Even though the Main picture does not show a Truss Rod Cover there is one but not Original. I am pretty sure the Nut may have been replaced at some time, but I may be wrong? I did nothing to fix any of the worn spots or any of the finish nicks. Even with these, the guitar is in Good Condition finish wise. When I bought this guitar the person got the guitar in a lot with other items in a stowage locker so I have zero History on it. I could be the third owner or the 100th owner. Goes with the Mystery of the Guitar. Sound wise you cannot go wrong. If you want Vintage this is it. 43 Years old and going strong. Still a great Players Guitar with the work done this guitar will be around for many years to come. Shipping will be Free with a “Buy it Now” deal.
