4/4 violin, 18th centuryunlabelled The attractive one-piece back (LOB 35 mm) of medium curl, matching ribs and scroll; medium-narrow spruce top.The varnish of golden brown colour.
Condition commensurate with age; no soundpost or bass bar cracks; only minor repairs to the ribs and two repaired cracks running from the left f-hole.The neck is grafted. This violin is likely to be composite: The very good material and workmanship of the back is not matched by the table, which also has different purfling.Nonetheless, this is an enchanting instrument with a mature, warm, and mellow (viola-like) sound, and it plays easily with good response across the whole range. It is not overly loud, but extremely comfortable to play. I have played it professionally in orchestras and chamber ensembles, increasingly leaving my L&T Carcassi in the case (and eventually selling it!). This is a lot of violin for little money!
Please bid with confidence - I provide a 14-days return option (you won't return it though!).Viewing in person can be arranged in London and Liverpool.Payment: Preferably wire transfer or cash on collectionInternational postage is available - please enquire. Please also have a look at my listing for more violins and fine art.
