This is quite an early instrument thought to be made in rural England around the Late Baroque. When it was restored to playing condition no marks or labels were found on the inside of the instrument so the maker is unknown. The violin has its original maple saddle and fruitwood end pin. The neck has a baroque profile but is not set straight, being angled at around 5 or 6 degrees. The peg box is closer to viola proportions and is fitted with new pegs. The top is quite low arched with a wide flamed grain. Length of back is 360 mm. Set up with a baroque style maple fingerboard, maple tailpiece and medium tension gut strings (Pirastro Chordas on the top and Eudoxas on the bottom), it produces a very good tone which I hope comes across in my slightly pedantic playing of Purcell in my YouTube Video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdPe1irj8oo I'm sure the tone could be further developed with low tension Passione or Oliv strings.  The price includes UK shipping in a basic case. The instrument can be tried out and returned if you decide that it's not for you (see my returns policy).  I have a baroque bow for sale under a separate listing that may also be of interest.
