COLLINGS MF MANDOLINFull Gloss with original Collings TKL Deluxe case & K&K pickupI have recently taken delivery of a custom built mandolin that takes the best bits from my other mando's so although I don't really want to sell the others, I know that they are not going to get played.This has been my baby, it's a 2008 (serial #1035). Bought in the USA, it was the best sounding & playing mandolin that I could find anywhere under $8k (and I did try a lot!!).If you're looking, you probably already have a good idea about Collings, the build is impeccable and the tone is very consistent. This one has the usual Collings woody 'bark', loads of chop as expected but it also has stand-out clarity on melody lines or tunes. Very balanced across the strings and it plays easily - you don't have to hit it to make yourself heard.I play with a hard pick and as a result, I do leave pick marks - these are visible in the attached photos. I specified a pick guard for my new one and retro fitting one to the MF would cover the marks... but I prefer an honestly played instrument to a glass showcase model (they're built to play).The flame maple is stunning as is the Adirondack Spruce top - both are much more highly figured than a stock mandolin, I was told that the Honey Blonde gets the better timber because it's more visible. I do know it's much prettier than any of the new ones I've seen recently. This also has the ivory binding, I think the tortoise stands out a bit too much... but that's personal taste.Comes with a K&K passive 2 spot pickup fitted and an end pin jack socket, my preference is to use a preamp before going into a desk but they are quite high output so you have options.The TKL Deluxe Collings case is solid, very protective and all the catches & hinges work perfectly - but it's never going to pass as new (although I'm happy to remove the stickers if you wish).A new, blonde, MF Gloss Top with pickup will set you back slightly under £5k today. This one is full gloss, beautiful timbers and already played in.You are encouraged to come and play it but I will ship well packaged if you prefer.
