Marigaux Strasser 501 Oboe (used instrument) Serial number 86904Rosehill showroom price £2,500Purchased from Howarth of London in the 1990s, this professional oboe (model 501) seems to have been replaced by the current Marigaux 901. I am not a double reed specialist and so cannot detail the differences, but I it is a semi-automatice, thumb plate version. If anyone can add more information I shall be pleased to add your contribution below... We understand that this is a model and brand highly recommended by professional players for students, so if you have a player in mind we can reserve the oboe for you until they have an opportunity; please contact the showroom by email or telephone. The oboe was valued by Howarth of London in 1997 and the again in 2014 (both for insurance); the value in 2014 was £3,400. In 2016 Howarth viewed the oboe once again and assessed that their re-sale on this item would be £2,900. I will supply this document. The Rosehill showroom price is £2,500.There has only been one previous owner. Rosehill received the instrument earlier this year and kept it in store until our technicians had the opportunity for strip, re-pad and service the oboe. Our technicians are vastly experienced and undertake work for many professional double reed players. Product Description The 501 model is discontinued and I do not have the exact spec, but it will be similar to the 901 model listed on the Marigaux web site. Talking with one of our technicians, the main difference is that fact the 501 does not have the double correspondence on the bell or a 3rd octave key. I have copied 901 spec from the manufacturer's site. We have a professional oboe player on our team, so if you need a more accurate description we can ask for his help.Semi-automatic, grenadilla wood, silverplated keys.
The very heart and essence of Marigaux manufacture, the original sound according to Mr. Jules Marigaux’s standard.Wood rigorously selected, dried during at least four years.A traditional manufacture, true to the excellent reputation of French craftsmanship.A much easier and sharper low register(double correspondence on the bell).A high register which is even and direct. An excellent orchestral oboe played by the greatest ensembles worldwide.3rd octave key, double F keyCondition Description As with all of our instruments, the oboe has been serviced and tested by our woodwind technician to ensure that it is fully functional and plays well.  Cosmetically, the instrument is in excellent condition for the age, and only shows modest signs of age: the key-work plating remains intact and has been polished. The wooden body is attractive and in excellent condition. Aside from a few scuffs and worn corners, the case is fully functional and in good cosmetic condition. You are welcome to test the instrument prior to purchase - this is normally arranged via our showroom in Beaconsfield (near London).Returns/WarrantyIf on initial inspection you are disappointed in any way, you may return it and receive a full refund.
