Vintage 1950’s Couesnon Paris Bb Flugelhorn The Couesnon flugelhorn has been the holy grail of flugel's for jazz players for decades. These are the legendary flugels that the likes of Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Shorty Rogers and Art Farmer. Because of their smoky dark sound, vintage Queenie’s (nickname) are highly sought after by top players. This flugel is no exception and has the sound we all search for in a flugel, really buttery & warm. 2nd valve casing is stamped “N” on middle valve. The mouthpiece receiver is stamped “S 85 v” although I have no idea what any of this means. The horn was re-lacquered by Eclipse trumpets in a very distinctive dark Savannah finish with contrasting inner bell, valve caps and slides. Eclipse also fitted water keys to the first and third valve slides. All this work came to well over £300. The flugel was more recently serviced and fitted with new valve springs and pads. This flugel is in beautiful condition and has been well looked after. All the slides are clean and move freely. The valves are in great shape and and are fast & smooth. The best valve action I’ve ever come across on a Couesnon. No repairs. No leaks. No patches. Excellent compression. The only cosmetics negatives are a 2 or 3 small areas on the bell tube where the lacquer has worn which you can see on the pics. These flugels are getting harder to find in this kind of condition so don’t miss this one! Comes with a period case. Seller is a professional player - please email with any questions.
