Up for sale, a 1960's Wurlitzer model 146 in excellent condition, with a full rebuild of the original amp as well as complete action regulation and tuning! As the "student model" version of the coveted 140B, the 146 features the same amplifier and action assembly, and this particular piano has been modded to offer everything found on a 140B and more. For a warmth, grit, and bell-like tone similar to the 200 series but with a bit more character and drive, the 140 series Wurlitzer pianos are truly a "best of both worlds" scenario for players seeking both cleans and overdriven electric piano tones!Beginning with the solid state amplifier, the circuit was thoroughly serviced and recapped, and greater functionality was added to the cheek block controls. These include a Volume knob which doubles as the piano's on/off switch, as well as individual controls for Vibrato Speed and Frequency (technically the effect is Tremolo given that the result is volume modulation, but since Wurlitzer was so fond of the word Vibrato...). The knobs are all genuine vintage chickenheads, with a cream knob for the Volume and deep burgundy for the Vibrato controls. An additional line out feature has also been added for the original 6x9 alnico speaker, which is still present and sounds fantastic. The keys are level, the action has been regulated, and the original damper felts and hammer tips are in good working order. The action is smooth and consistent in all registers, with key caps that only show light wear, and key bushings that have no excessive side to side wiggle and are responsive to a light touch. The piano has been fitted with a brand new set of chrome leg flanges courtesy of Vintage Vibe, and the legs are genuine new old stock Wurlitzer legs which were painted to closely match the original finish on the piano. The stock sustain pedal also received a new cable and now works very smoothly.
Cosmetically, this piano retains its original deep beige color, with the stock Wurlitzer logo on the face, and a clean metal badge noting the rare 146 model on the back. There is notable edge and corner wear down to the bare wood and one small silver plug just north of the cheek block from a previously removed mod. Overall, this piano presents quite well, and the condition is faithfully represented in the included photos. This Wurlitzer has been lovingly rebuilt and cleanly modded with the player in mind, and is ready for stage and studio use!
