A fine antique french master violin made by Louis Moitessier circa 1840.Fine antique french master violin made by Louis Moitessier in Mirecourt circa 1830.  We currently have two other violins by this good maker in our shop that you can find on Ebay. This one differs from the others as it was made after a grand Stradivarius pattern, in the style of Didier Nicolas Ainé who was trendy in Mirecourt at the time. The body is much flatter than the Stainer inspiration he made the other ones with. The top is made of a single part of spruce and shows regular grain lines becoming thiner at the right. The back is made of a beautiful single piece of wonderfully flamed maple, the curl very gently descending to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The fantastic varnish, of a delicate red rubis color, soft in texture, is well preserved and entirely original. The work is excellent, the f holes nicely cut, and the head is a miracle of french beauty, keeping the tradition of the best 18th century makers. The violin is in an excellent condition, with just an old little f hole crack at lower right, a dent at upper left edge on top, and some wear to the varnish. The violin kept old (probably 19th century) rosewood pegs.On the inside back can be found the original fire brand of the master, "Moitessier à Paris".The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a new rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, a rosewood chinrest, a Despiau bridge and Thomastik Dominant new strings set.The sound is excellent, deep and mature, warm, with a good projection : a fine french concert violin that will allow you the most complete repertory. The violin comes with its certificate, including a full description and a $6000.00 valuation.Dimensions are the following :LOB : 364 mm.Upper bouts : 175 mm.Middle bouts : 117 mm.Lower bouts : 213 mm.The instrument comes with a new rectangular case. Insured shipping to EU $50 and US $75.Happy bidding !
