"Connstellation Killer" Holton B 47 Bb Trumpet, Approximately 1964 Vintage
I am a long time trumpet player and former band teacher. I play trumpet and cornet with a municipal brass band still.  Usually, I just enjoy sitting in the last section of the cornets, but a few years back, we lost our Eb player in the local Brass Band I play in, and I decided I'd move up to the Eb chair.  After trying what I had in my collection, I realized I needed a better horn for this HIGHLY EXPOSED position, I bought a bunch of Eb's (and a couple of D's, I dunno!) and I have settled on the Schilke E3L and now desperately need to pay off the Paypal bill!  I loved playing this horn, but frankly, I have such a large collection, and now am sitting at the top of the section, so I can't switch around as I have in the past, so I'm having to let some horns go from the closet! The serial number on the second valve set is 3862XX and the model is B 47 (not the earlier 47B) putting it very shortly after the LeBlanc acquisition of Holton, but before they revised their line, making their top line horns in France for a few years.  Perhaps that is why I don't see these very often, and they are not listed in the Holton Loyalist site.  I have seen these horns written up as Connstellation killers, perhaps because for a short time Holton made them in a wide wrap that sort of looks like a Connie in profile, but for my style of playing, this horn is WAY PAST the Connstellations I have played it against.  The response is much better for me than the 38B, small bore Connie, and the tone is much richer than the older 28B.  Intonation is great too.  In fact, I think the sound is better than my Xeno for a church gig, being a bit richer in tone perhaps due to the red brass alloy and heavier build.  When we play older swing music in the group, this thing just plain SINGS!  Push it and it does your bidding with a great tone.  I would say that with the right attitude and mouthpiece, this horn is well suited for anything you want to play!  CONDITION: This instrument is in functionally and cosmetically EXCELLENT condition,  Valve compression and slide fit is very good.  The instrument shows no sign of any repairs, dents, dings, oopsies or even hard stares! There are some lacquer scrapes, very small, on the leadpipe where someone might have put one of those clamp on lyre sockets, and maybe a tiny scratch (lacquer only) right above where the back of your index finger rests the bell.  Even the white nylon slide bumpers and stop screws are still there!CASE: The original case is offered with this horn, and is in very good condition, but has some "closet wear" and stains from my granddaughter dripping her formula from her bottle on it while I wasn't looking one day!   I will ship it in a sturdy box with ample wraps of bubble pack, at least three layers over all the horn.MOUTHPIECE: I am including a nice older Bach 7C.  The rim, cup, silverplate, and shank are all good, with a some shank plating wear.Shipping: Shipping in the continental US will be FREE.  I will ship to some other locations, outside the 50 US states will be through EBay's Global Shipping Program. WHY BUY A QUALITY ASSURED INSTRUMENT FROM AN EXPERIENCED SELLER SUCH AS MYSELF? I am an experienced trumpet player, collector, and teacher. I have collected, repaired, and played trumpets for over 48 years. As a knowledgeabl
