A fine antique french master violin made by Louis Moitessier circa 1820.Fine antique french master violin made in Mirecourt by Louis Moitessier circa 1820. The top is made of two parts of regular spruce, the grain lines widening towards the edges. The back is made of an handsome single piece of very nicely flamed maple, the curl slightly ascending fro the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The varnish is of a superb deep red rubis-brown color on a golden ground, a fantastic oil varnish that has crackled with time. The Moitessier style has a lot of singularity and character, with a body close from the work of Vuillaume père. The head is slender and elegant, in the pure tradition of the 18th century french parisian school.The violin is in a very good condition, the head shows pegs bushings, and a repair has been very properly made on it. There is a repair at the upper right part of table. A maple saddle has been made under the fingerboard to correct the original angle.The violin has been revised and set-up, including a rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, a rosewood chinrest, a Despiau bridge and Thomastik Dominant new strings set. The rosewood pegs are older but still fit.On the inside back can be found the original fire brand of the maker, "Moitessier à Paris". The violin is guaranteed authentic.The violin, as expected, has a soft and warm baroque sound suitable for chamber or baroque music that you will love.Dimensions are the following :LOB : 358 mm.Upper bouts : 165 mm.Middle bouts : 110 mm.Lower bouts : 207 mm.The instrument comes with a new rectangular case.
