1923 Vintage Mittenwald Violin
Estimated price for orientation: 1 400 $
Category: Violins
Class:
Description Size: 4/4 Exact Year: 1923
I purchased this beautiful 1923 Mittenwald violin from the String House in Rochester NY. I stopped by to ask what the current market value of the instrument would be and they estimated it to be at $1800. The bow is a Thomas 60.1G and is valued at $500. So the total value is $2300. I will provide original receipts. The current bridge set up is lower/flatter and optimal for fiddling. What makes this instrument stand out from the crowd is it's darker richer sound. The upper bout measures 5" and the body length is 14.5". The case has been hand painted and is a one of a kind work of art. It also comes in handy if you are with a large group of musicians and all the cases are black.
The violin has a solid back construction and was made in Mittenwald Germany. I tried to photograph the interior label but found it almost impossible to capture the entire image. This is what was printed on the inside label:
Neuner u. Borufteiner Mittenwals (Oberbaern) 1923, nach Mosell Matti-Leffler Mittenwald Germany. It is difficult to decide what the letters are because of the ornate writing So, Borufteiner is Hornsteiner. There is a symbol with a circle that contains N and H. There is also a small label with the number #1529 written in ink. Please see the photos for the surface condition. This is a beautiful, ready to play instrument in great condition. The price includes the violin, bow and case which includes a Kuhn shoulder rest, assorted strings and resin. If you live close by and prefer to pick up the item, then that is fine with me.
