Gibson model A-4 made in year 1906.
Serial number 6383 is inscribed on the interior oval paper label featuring a photo of the face of Orville Gibson and a lyre mandolin.
The bridge appears to be a later replacement and a crack at the heel of the neck has been repaired.
In other respects it conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made,
symmetrical pear-shaped A style bodycarved spruce top with oval soundhole and black varnish finishbirch back and sides with dark red mahogany stain finishmahogany neckebony fingerboard with white binding and pearl dot inlayswhite binding on the top and back edges of the bodytortoiseshell pickguard inlaid into the top with a fleur-de-lis inlay within the guardThe Gibson and pearl peghead inlays, and tuner buttons inlaid with wire and pearlrefer to photos to see some minor marks on the mandolinoriginal hard case with red velvet lining which is worn in spots (see photos), outside of case has some marks and the leather handle is broken but the piece is included in the compartment inside the case.
