SSL ALPHA-LINK MADI SX 24 Channel 24 AD/DA Converter with Black Lion Audio Mods
In excellent working condition. I've had one issue using MADI @ 96k with my RME Madiface interface, where my RME is only seeing a 48k frame rate coming from the Alpha Link. I'm not sure where the issue is, if it's the Madiface or the SSL. I've spoken to some other owners of the Madi SX who also had some issues with 96k, which apparently was resolved with a firmware update, which may be the case with this one. Unfortunately I don't have an SSL PCI(e) MADI card, which is required to update the firmware. For this reason, I'm selling "as is" with a low starting price. That aside, I've been using this unit at 96k via AES/EBU converting to and from analog, and at 48k via Madi to and from analog with no problems at all, everything works perfectly and sounds exceptional!I am the 2nd owner of this unit, and was told by the original owner when I purchased it, that it had been modded by Black Lion. As I did not receive any documentation with the unit, I've removed references to the BL Mod in this listing, as it's possible that it is an unmodded unit. I'm adding some additional photos of the inside of the unit. (Maybe someone with more knowledge of the BLA mods can provide some additional info).
*UPDATE - another ebay member who also had his Alpha Link SX modded by BLA has added the following info:
"Oh you've relisted your Alphalink! This unit was modded By BLA that's 200% sure. You can tell by looking a the gold caps everywhere and the additionnal power supply screwed on the right side of the enclosure. You can add it to your title without any possible doubt.
Also you can tell that to upgrade the firmware you need the older pci Mixpander card by SSL, which connect to the alphalink through the expansion port on the back. The newer madixtreme pcie card won't work, at least mine didn't...." This is an excellent, very high quality AD/DA converter, made even better with the BLA mods.
