Antique Early French Mandolin for Restoration Baroque Neapolitan Style

Estimated price for orientation: 600 $

Category: Mandolins

Description

An antique mandolin in very poor condition, most probably Mirecourt work from the very early part of the 19th century. Instrument is built in an "ancient" style with a round sound hole and Baroque-style pick guard and rib bindings and is of a style not unlike those produced in Naples ca. 1760-1800 with the exception of the raised fingerboard. Machine tuners are a later addition and this mandolin would have originally been fitted with violin pegs. Instruments has numerous poor repairs and badly mended fractures to the bowl, head, and table. Will require much work to be playable again. As shown.
