This 11 string alto was specially commissioned from a Chinese luthier. It is beautifully built, as the pictures show. They also provide alto guitars for another well known company who obviously add a large mark-up. The reason I am selling is because I am commissioning another alto guitar with a double top. This guitar has a cedar top, is traditionally braced and produces a wonderfully resonant sound. Also included is a hard case. The photos show the quality of timbers and the craftsmanship involved. The instrument features a sound port, which is quite common on modern guitars. It can be played in standard tuning, or tuned a minor third higher to play lute repertoire. I have been playing it at normal concert pitch and made use of the sub basses, but it works equally well tuned higher. Its standard dimensions for alto guitar mean that with a shorter string length, no more stress is placed on the bridge by tuning up by a minor third. There are only two hardly visible varnish scratches to the back, only visible when tilted to the light. I have shown this very clearly in the third photograph.
