This is a beautifully aged, one owner, 1966 Fender Jazz Bass.  The owner passed away and no one in the family plays, so they asked me to sell it for them.  S/N 191218.  Neck stamped 7SEP66A. 3-Tone Sunburst, rosewood fret board with block inlay and binding.  Since the owner is deceased, little is known of the history other than the son knowing it was played regularly most of its life.  Appears to have had the nut replaced.  The neck pickup was open and was repaired by Lindy Fralin.  To the best of my knowledge those are the only repairs.  Neck seems straight and action was easily set.  Frets appear original and in good shape.  Oval tuners all work, but show some dragging indicating the internals could use some polishing.  Pots all appear original.  Pots all work with mild scratchiness on the neck pot, minimal on the bridge, and almost none on the tone control.  Tone cap is face down, but appears to be original and is tonally functional.  Beautiful age checking in the finish, with normal dings, dents and a few chips of a lifetime of playing.  Appears to be the original pick guard.  Two corners of pick guard have broken off, one was previously glued in position on body, the other is taped from behind the pick guard.   No cigarette burns on the head.  Moderate buckle rash on back.  Original case long gone, was found in a Fender roto-molded case from the '80's that was held together with lath and staples, lol!  Now resides in a new Fender case with red plush interior.  Fully functional and ready to play. Below is the appraisal from Gruhn Guitars in Nashville: Serial number 191218. While the neck plate serial number dates to 1966, these plates were stamped in large quantities and then used in random order so the numbers do not strictly correspond to the final assembly dates. However, other construction features of this bass indicate it was produced in 1966 (neck date 7 Sep 66 A – Potentiometer date codes 304-6631). Upon examination we note that this bass exhibits normal finish deterioration including lacquer checking, edge chips, compression marks, and belt buckle wear. The nut has been replaced and the leads on the neck pickup volume potentiometer have been re-soldered, likely at the time of the pickup repair as indicated by the owner. The pickguard is damaged in two areas, as described above. In other respects, this instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with ash “offset-waist” body, three-color sunburst finish, beveled-edge multi-ply tortoise-shell grain pickguard, two single-coil pickups, top-mounted black knob volume and tone controls, maple neck with rosewood veneer fingerboard with single-ply white binding, pearloid rectangular fingerboard inlays, open-back “paddle” Fender tuners, round string tree, gold Fender logo peghead decal and nickel-plated metal parts. We were unable to make an in-hand assessment of the pickups, potentiometers, selector switch, capacitors and wiring, but we assume them to be correct. The bass is currently housed in a modern Fender hard shell case with red plush interior lining. Current market value: $6,000 (six thousand dollars) Joe Spann - Gruhn Guitars 2120 8th Avenue S Nashville, TN 37204 I stake my eBay reputation that this bass is as described.  However, as I am not the owner, this sale is Final, no returns or refunds.
