Vintage 1937 Martin Handcraft Imperial Cornet #3 Bore .468" in playing condition!
Serial number 122xxxVERY rare horn!!!! ...wonderful Handcraft Imperial Cornet with the .468" #3 Large Bore!.....Martin's cornets are Martin trumpets with a different receiver and slightly different leadpipe....with this cornet, you get a great playing HCI with the highly sought-after #3 Large Bore at tremendous savings (kind of like an HCI with a different wrap)!....and this example is in AMAZING original condition!!!...was well cared for....clean inside...original lacquer has smoky patina....a few pings here and there....the only thing it is missing is 3rd slide finger ring, easily replaced....but the valves also are very tight.....little if any blow through!....has that wonderful big Martin sound with the super fast exchange between notes.........comes with the original case, nice extra pockets, and includes a New York Bach mouthpiece.Here's what Martin wrote about this cornet in their Imperial catalog of 1934:"The name Imperial fits perfectly the supreme excellence of these fine instruments. Built of the finest procurable materials and with painstaking care by thoroughly skilled and conscientious craftsmen who are paid by the day, not by the piece, they are singularly free from any of the impediments to perfect performance so often found in band instruments.Valves and slides are of wear proof nickel silver, hand ground to perfect smoothness and air and water-tight fit. Bells made of yellow trumpet brass, hand hammered to perfect temper and resilience but still heavy enough to give the instrument an unfathomable depth of power through every register. Extremely flexible and susceptible to tone placing so that any player who will familiarize himself with an Imperial Martin Trumpet or Cornet can "sing" on it with perfect ease, each tone coming right where his ear anticipates it.Note the design of the Martin Cornet, its symmetrical proportions and perfectly balanced lines. The lead pipe, from mouthpiece to third valve, is tapered throughout, the only cornet built with mouthpipe so long in continuous taper. This is a very important feature of the new Martin Cornet.The Imperial Martin Trumpets and Cornets are built in three bores, the No. 2 being recommended for all around playing.
