Our first impression of Telefunken Elektroakustic’s first small diaphragm condenser, the ELA M 260 was that it captures the rhythmic qualities of an acoustic guitar in a very natural way. It has a very flattering transient response that never gets too edgy, and the body of the signal remains smooth. This model is inspired by the original ELA M 260, which Telefunken commissioned AKG to build, starting in 1959, along with the ELA M 251, the ELA M 250, the stereo ELA M 270, and another small diaphragm model, the ELA M 261. It is not a historic reproduction, like Telefunken Elektroakustic’s Diamond Series mics, but it is built with the same quality and attention to detail. It features a new circuit design based around a New Old Stock (NOS) EF-732 / 5840W vacuum tube and a custom output transformer that is wound to exacting specification in their Connecticut plant. The ELA M 260 comes with three interchangeable capsules, the TK60 cardioid, TK61 omni, and TK62 hyper-cardioid, so you can choose which polar pattern best suits the situation. Besides acoustic guitar, this model will perform extremely well on all sorts of acoustic instruments, including violin, cello, upright bass, drum overheads, percussion, woodwinds, saxophones, strings, and even background vocals.Questions?
