Would you like a bit of mojo to go with that Sony C-37A? This microphone was originally owned by the famous Sound City Studio, in Van Nuys, California -- birthplace of many legendary hits. I found a picture of Tom Petty singing into a C-37A there, in the big room. I'm not sure if it was this exact mic (#12) but there you are. If it wasn't Tom, maybe it was Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash or who knows? Producers try all sorts of mics in the course of duty. Maybe Johnny sang a verse or two through it?Here's sample list of some of the artists that recorded at Sound City over the years:Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, The Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Rage Against The Machine, Seal, Nirvana, Garbage, Joan Osborne, Ben Folds Five, Fleetwood Mac, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, The Black Crowes, The Grateful Dead, L7, Neil Young, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers, Redd Kross, The Cult, Maria McKee, Slayer, Elvis Costello, Masters Of Reality, Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, Blind Melon, The Jayhawks, Robben Ford, Santana, Jenny Lewis, Charles Manson, Barry Manilow, Rancid, Kyuss, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, WAR, George Harrison, Danzig, The Wallflowers, Bad Religion, John McVie, Seal, Evel Knievel, Queens Of The Stone Age, Buckingham Nicks, South Park, Guns 'n' Roses, Robert Cray, Dokken, Slipknot, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lenny Kravitz, Willie Nelson, Metallica, Foreigner, Johnny Cash, Joe Walsh, Weezer, REO Speedwagon, The Jackson 5, Foreigner, Bill Cosby, The Horror Pops, The Melvins, Warren G., Sammy Hagar, Dio, Tears for Fears, Engines Of Aggression, Ratt, Donovan, Buddy Guy, Posssum Dixon, Carl Perkins, Ry Cooder, Frank Black, Perfect Circle.....This listing is for the microphone with case (a really nice re-purposed Toshiba Type G case) and the original CP-3B power supply. The power supply was serviced last year by Mr Dave Thomas (Advanced Audio Microphone) who has given it a clean bill of health. The capsule is a very clean *vintage* capsule, taken from a de-commissioned 1960's C-37fet -- exact same spec. (The original capsule was not in good shape, needed to be re-skinned and was sold on.) I've put a NOS Telefunken tube in the mic; it sounds clean and lovely. Two more little niggles, just for the sake of completeness: Firstly, there's one small screw missing from the head basket. I'm pretty sure that wound up under the carpet at Sound City. Secondly, the rubber grommet in the yoke assembly was completely shrunken so I removed it. It will wobble a little until you find a bit of rubber to fit in there. I've been advised that it's easy enough to set straight with a product called Sugru -- a moldable rubber that sets hard. In either case, neither the niggles nor the wobbles really change anything about the sound -- and it does sound smooth. So, to reiterate: - Sony C-37A with NOS Telefunken tube and *very clean* vintage capsule - Sony CP3 Power Supply -- serviced by Dave Thomas, 100% up to spec, no ripple. - Hard case (vintage Toshiba ribbon mic case) - All original cables The shipping prices are approximate; we will work for the best arrangement. In any case, I don't over-charge shipping -- you pay the real cost, nothing more. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers!
