This is a 1969 Elkhart Conn 8DS double french horn (serial number M67903). The engraving reads "C G Conn LTD Elkhart IND USA.". The 8D, is Conn's symphony double horn, and is constructed from solid nickel silver. The horn plays very well. The valves move well with good compression, and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings throughout the horn, as well as a few spots of light scratching and pitting. This horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. The bell screw has standard Alexander threads, so the bell is interchangeable with many bells available on the market should the player ever wish to try out different bells. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wished for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a Yamaha briefcase style hardshell screw-bell case and mouthpiece in good condition. How this horn plays: Big, full and powerful sound; dark and rich tone; very responsive; low and high registers speak easily, with the low register being very bass trombone-like;  at the extreme fortissimo the horn is a bit raw, but it does not blatt; the horn is also capable of playing at the extreme pianissimo without breaking up; the Bb side is a bit brighter in timbre than the F side (which is usual)
