Hardshell CaseThis 2003 Gibson SG Special is a beautiful and extremely rare and collectible guitar. Gibson made a small number of SG Specials with dark ebony fingerboards and crescent moon inlays in 2002 and 2003. Although I have run into a number of them over the years, they have always had Gibson's Worn/Faded finish. This guitar does not. It is a Gloss Heritage Cherry with tons of gorgeous wood grain visible through the clear-coat. Combined with the striking crescent moon inlays on the ultra dark ebony board, it is one of the best looking SGs I have come across. In addition to it being a beautiful guitar, it has major electronic upgrades. The pots have all been upgrade to 500k CTS, and a set of no-logo, black, uncovered Seymour Duncan '59s have replaced the stock 490/498 pickups giving the guitar a more vintage tone range. The guitar is in excellent shape for its age with surprisingly little playwear. As it is a 13 year old guitar, there are of course some play scratches on the pickguard and a number of light handling marks on the back, edges, and high play areas, but nothing immediately noticeable, and nothing through the clearcoat. The guitar comes with a SG sized hardshell case.Photos are of the actual guitar. They are not stock photos.
