Meyer New York USA Alto Sax Mouthpiece 5M Collectible
ATTENTION CollectorsThis is a Very Rare Mouthpiece - a piece of anthologie :
I am selling my vintage Meyer New York USA 5M Alto Sax mouthpiece, original facing 0.72" who once belonged to Cannonball Adderley. Yes! The one and only Cannonball himself!!!
* The shank a bit scratched as you will see on the pictures (use to have silver ring).* Some teeth marks and scratches are showable as I used this mouthpiece for many years.* The rails, baffle, tip, chamber, lay and table are in perfect and original condition. * Never been refaced.* Original opening is 0.72"* The sound and tone of this mouthpiece is phenomenal.* You can hear the sound of it on all my recordings from 2000 to now.* I am simply selling it because I have found another one just like it and I need the extra cash.
I got it from an old man in 1997 who also sold me his (Cannonball's) King Alto Super 20 Silver Sonic 1954 serial #323 XXX. He got this special horn from Cannonball himself in 1960/61. The mouthpiece came with Cannonball's horn. The mouthpiece use to have a Silver Ring on the shank but the old man took it away when he got it in early 60'. (He didn't like it).
He went to Cannonball's home in Queens (NY). As he told me when I first approached him in 1997, Cannonball's mother was there also. He showed me a picture his wife took from this event, both him and Cannonball holding the horn together. They had the picture in the living room of their house. He also showed me a receipt from Cannonball's hand writing for the purchased of the horn. He didn't want to give it to me of course. As if this souvenir was more important than the horn itself.
At first, he didn't want to sell me the horn. It took a couple of hours for me to convince him. He said yes after hearing me play with the horn in his house. His eyes became luminous then. He made me promise to give him regular news of my career so for some years I sent him all my albums. He died in 2006 and I never heard from him or his wife after. They have no kids. I tried to get some of his belongings a while after but I couldn't find anything.
Anyway, I can play the mouthpiece (on my horn) so you can hear what I am talking about on Skype if you like.
Good luck to you all!!!
