Bamboo Alto Flute Headjoint by David Chu #12 (Sideblown Technologies)Circa mid 1990s, this is one of the early Boehm-style flute headjoints made
by David Chu, when he was still in Phoenix, Arizona. Steve Tung flew out
to Phoenix to meet David and see, in person, his bamboo flute headjoints.
David let Steve buy this headjoint, that had been made for another flute. It has been used in an older Gemeinhardt alto flute since then, using Scotch
tape to slightly enlarge the tenon for a secure fit. It has been known to fit
an older Artley alto flute as well. It may fit an older Haynes alto flute (which
is also large-bore), but this is not verified. It fits in a current Haynes
Amadeus alto flute perfectly, with the existing Scotch tape. This particular headjoint was used in the album "Glimpses of November"
by Steve Tung (stevetung.com/music/glimpses-of-november) back in
1997 (this particular headjoint used on the tracks titled "rain" and "water"),
and has been used on numerous recordings on the FLUTE.NET website
since then. Steve is currently playing on a wood alto flute headjoint
made by David Chu.This headjoint is well used and worn from the years. The inside of the
headjoint was originally completely covered in red shellac which has mostly
all flaked off. The headjoint cork is fixed in place. The remnants of the
name "KORBEL" can still be seen on one end of the cork, looking inside
from the tenon end.The outside diameter of the tenon (measured near the bamboo where there
is no tape) is 1.014 inches. Inside diameter is 0.987 inches. The outside
diameter of the tenon measures approximately 1.031" with the
existing Scotch tape. The overall length is 292mm and the sounding
length is 200mm.Thank you for your interest and happy bidding!
