Up for sale, a 1956 Supro Chicago Model 51, recently serviced and ready for stage and studio use. This early Supro amp was manufactured in Chicago by the parent company, Valco, who made amps under the National, Supro, and Gretsch brands, among others. Powered by a pair of 6V6 tubes and voiced through a pair of original Rola 6x9 speakers, there's a midrange richness and detail to the breakup of these amps that is signature "Valco" tone. The bloom, light compression, and creamy nature of the sound reacts well with a variety of guitar pickups and makes this amp a perfect secret weapon for studio sessions, as it really shines with a microphone in front of it!The circuit has just been serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with new Mallory caps in the preamp where necessary and a new three-prong power cable. The original Stackpole pots date to 1956, and all of the original transformers are intact. The original pair of alnico Rola speakers retain their original cones, and we've recently doped the speaker edges and repaired a few slight cracks in the paper so as to preserve these nicely worn in (but not worn out!) cones. The amp has been stripped of its original covering and is now just bare wood which has been lightly finished in matte black, while retaining the original striking grillcloth silkscreen graphics. The stock metal Supro badge is intact on the face as well, and the faceplate is surprisingly clean, with Art Deco graphics and stock knobs. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.
Shipping in the continental USA will be by FedEx Ground and will be $70, fully insured. We use double thick boxes, 1" foam and industrial 1/2" bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. We will happily ship WORLDWIDE, but please contact us for an accurate international shipping quote before bidding or buying, as cost varies by buyer location.International orders will be declared as “merchandise,” and the value of merchandise will be declared as the amount paid. We cannot declare anything as a gift or for a lesser value. No exceptions! The customer is responsible for all taxes and duty, which may be collected upon delivery. We do our best to describe all items with honesty and accuracy, but to be sure, please contact us with any questions or concerns prior to bidding or buying.
