Crane Song HEDD 192HEDD, short for Harmonically Enhanced Digital Device, is a digital to analog and analog to digital converter. It is engineered to be musically transparent while providing the capability of tube/analog tape sounds in the digital domain.Applications include CD preparation, DAW input and output and warming and changing sounds in the digital domain. HEDD can be used in tracking, mixing or mastering.The HEDD signal processor is endlessly versatile and has the following features:High quality 24 Bit A/D and D/A converters24 Bit processingAdjustable Triode, Pentode and Tape soundsDigital I/O, AES and SPDIF inputs and outputsExternal WC (word clock) Sync input and outputThe front panel controls allow the user to select input source, sample rate (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192kHz) bit rate (16, 20 and 24 bit) and continuously variable triode, pentode and tape sounds. The HEDD can operate as an effects device or as a separate A/D and D/A with the sound enhancement process applied to either the A/D or D/A converter or bypassed altogether.HEDD has transformerless balanced analog inputs and outputs, transformer isolated digital inputs and outputs and uses separate power transformers and supplies for the analog and digital sections. The unit is 1U tall and operates from 115 to 230V mains.This unit was manufactured in 2009 and I have owned it from new in my smoke free studio. It has been the front end of my signal chain and has provided the monitoring output for my critical listening. Like all Crane Song equipment it is beautifully engineered and robustly constructed (I have owned the STC-8 and now own a Solaris).
