The Jezebel Strad, a 4/4 1927 American-made violin -UNIQUE A wonderful American made violin that its maker called the Jezebel Strad. Made in 1927 by William Kidd of Basic City, Virginia*. This is one of my treasured violins. It is the one I was going to keep. I intended to sell my German-made Maggini copy, but there are a host of Maggini’s on eBay, including dozens of copies from China. So, the Jezebel Strad being a unique instrument and my need dire will have to be the one to go. The Jezebel Strad is the instrument I played most often at jams, Celtic and Old Time – it has a gorgeous voice. Look at the pictures: This is an old instrument and does show some wear, but there is nothing wrong with it that would impair its playability. It was recently restored and set up by one of the top luthiers in Florida -- new strings, fine tuners, etc. There was some old damage next to the neck (right side, pictured), and a tiny stabilized crack on the right side from the F- to the purfling but that is repaired and stable. Remember this instrument is almost 90-years-old! As I said, there are no cracks, splits, warps, or anything else that would impair the ability of this violin to sing. If you win this auction, you will have won a truly unique, one-of-a-kind instrument. Look at how beautifully the scroll is carved and the gracefully shaped body and F-holes! The label inside reads: The Jezebel Strad
By William Kidd – 1927
Basic City, VA* (* Basic City in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, became part of Waynesboro in the early 1900s) The violin will be well wrapped and shipped in a hard case. There is no bow.
