Outside of appointments like headstock style and inlays, this is pretty much the same banjo as a Granada, Ma.ple construction. The only things not prewar on the banjo are the upgraded tuners, the tailpiece and the added HUBER tonering. I don't know what model of tonering this Huber is and quite frankly don't care....the banjo sounds AMAZING regardless of model association on the tonering. It has ALL the qualities of a prewar original 5 string blue grass banjo and will be sold for 100s of thousands less than the all original Mastertones featuring 5 string necks and original flatheads...banjos that Jim Mills estimates only about 60 were ever made. In my opinion, this banjo exceeds the quality of nearly any conversion banjo featuring an aftermarket Gibson copy neck. The sound is in the wood, not in the collectibility and it's quite apparent on first playing that this banjo is indeed very special. All parts fit supremely well together and it is a professional instrument in every sense. Considering you could drop $6000 on a modern Steeling, Deering or Huber made banjo, I think the price is attractive. Considering that many simple conversions with aftermarket necks are priced in the $4500 - $6000 ball park, I think this banjo is extremely attractive. With prewar style 11 and style 1 original 5 string banjos selling for $7000 and up in sometimes questionable condition, this banjo is easily one of the greater deals out there considering it's provenance and level of originality in Gibson origin. A $500 discount is possible (but no more), inquire if interested. Banjo is shipped in a Calton case which itself would easily run $700 - $800 used. There is over $7400 in parts value alone in this banjo. It has some VERY RARE qualities and the hardware is some of the nicest Gibson Prewar hardware I have ever seen. Flange has little to no pull, tension hoop is not blossomed and there is no pitting on the plating. Paper thin gap between neck and tension hoop, 5/8 bridge installed makes play very easy and comfortable with low string action. Action easily raised or lowered to your taste. Dotson reproduction 5th string pip also just installed, replacing the wood pip that was originally in it. Original bone nut also still in place. Scruggs tuners were added long ago but the stops were never installed. I can do this if you wish. Let the pictures talk....
