For auction is a 1963 Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar with the original Gibson case. You are looking at what I believe is the best sounding acoustic I have ever gotten in. If you follow my auctions you know that I did sell a 1955 Martin D28, which I was in love with, but this 63 J-200 could surpass it. Based on it's playability, rarity, and hands down best flat picking tone I have heard, I don't think you could ever own a better vintage acoustic. This guitar has had only one primary owner since 1963 who I got to meet and talk with. At first he recalled he bought it in 1961 but after speaking with Gibson they were pretty certain it was a 1963 model. He mainly played this guitar after he got home from serving in the army after 1973 but retired it from gigging in the mid 80's. Since then he mentioned it didn't get a ton of attention from himself or his son but he always kept it in fantastic working order with a yearly adjustment. As stated above, I find the 1963 Gibson J-200 to be an incredibly rare model especially in this condition with no major cracks or repairs. Presently I can not find any other comparable guitars on the market at all. What makes the 1963 model more desirable for collectors is a guy by the name of Jimmy Page played one from 1968 - 1970 but it was reported stolen not long after that. Here is a quote from Page on the finding zoso blog about his feelings on the '63 J-200 he played, "That was a Gibson J-200, which wasn't mine; I borrowed it. It was a beautiful guitar, really great. I've never found a guitar of that quality anywhere since. I could play so easily on it, get a really thick sound; it had heavy gauge strings on it, but it just didn't seem to feel like it."Please check out the videos below for a sample of other '63 J-200s, they are not the guitar for auction but the photos are the actual guitar up for grabs. So you understand my own feelings about the guitar, I have sold over 300+ acoustics and I would put this in the top two along side the '55 D28. I have always been a Gibson guy at heart because I love the neck profiles and I still believe vintage Gibson guitars set the bar for tonal balance and resonance. Keep in mind they are completely different guitars but from a collector/player standpoint this guitar is a once in a lifetime type of find.(Condition notes continued from the top) Back of the neck is in excellent condition with some wear around the sides, light buckle rash and some checking on the back, sides/bottom have some light wear but nothing major at all, string action is excellent, tuners are original and work with no issues. No repairs need to be done. Please keep in mind this is a real vintage guitar and expect it to have the standard minimal wear a real vintage example should have. Expect to do a basic set up after shipping in this temp. Pictures are the actual guitar but videos are not and just so you can hear a sample of a similar vintage J-200.
