Up for auction is a vintage (serial number 997559) King "Fidelio" model 2269 Double French Horn. This instrument is in very good condition and plays very well. The valves move very well with very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are a few small dings and pings and some light scratching and pitting throughout the instrument. The bell throat has some light scarring, and both the bell and leadpipe have some minor rippling. There are also a few patches of discoloration on the instrument. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The engraving on the bell reads "KING/ 2269/ USA". This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn has had the old lacquer removed to improve its tone, as well as for aesthetics. Therefore this horn is finished in pure brass, and fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina.  This instrument comes with a worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:  Warm, full, and rich sound; mellow and buttery tone; very responsive and lively, but not harsh like an 1159; the horn is free-blowing; the horn is capable of a full fortissimo without breaking up or blatting; it is also capable of playing quietly and melodically without becoming thin; Bb side timbre a bit brighter than the F side; high and low registers speak very well - the high register is effortless and the low register is very full and roundAll horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
