Up for auction is a rare original Heriot & Allan set of Border pipes made in the early 1980s. Only 18 of these were made, all hand made to order. This is a B-flat set but the drones will tune down to A. The chanter is fitted with a half-stock for easy change if you want to plug in a A-chanter.The pipes are made of wild Scottish Laburnum wood and horn mounts, fitted with the original leather bag and African Blackwood chanter. The leather is supple, air tight and not sticky. The red velvet bag cover is also original, and is in excellent condition. They are nicely set up and easy to play, requiring moderate pressure. The chanter has a bright Chris Apps reed. The drone reeds are the original brass body with cane tongue, working perfectly and steadily. All stocks are made of matching Laburnum except for one where the chanter attaches, which is made of African Blackwood. The drone stock brass ferrule is engraved "Heriot & Allan, 10.82"
This set comes from a non-smoking home and has been well taken care of. Since these pipes are made to be used with bellows, the leather and reeds last for ever (no bellows are included in this auction). No reserve.
