Description Brand: Haynes Machine Head Material: Sterling Silver Type: Concert Flute Riser Material: Sterling Silver Body Material: Sterling Silver Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Headjoint Material: Sterling silver MPN: Does Not Apply Skill Level: Professional
Vintage custom made Haynes sterling flute, serial 15XXX, 1938, sterling head, body, foot, keys, white gold springs, thin wall, Straubinger pads - recent overhaul by Weissman employee, Luke Penella (NYC).
Modern tuning A=440, not A=435.
It has a uniquely beautiful tone, among other similar age Haynes flutes. Closed tone-holes, C-foot, Y-arms, C# trill, DeLaurent model - C-B trill (instead of usual B-Bb), left hand support and a crutch, which can be mounted by choice. Please look at the pictures for design details. Not sure if it is Commercial or Handmade model, really a masterpiece of Haynes' craftsmanship.
Closed-hole flutes are more popular that open-hole flutes in Europe, especially in France. Marcel Moyse and Jean-Pierre Rampal preferred closed-hole C-foot flutes, because a closed-hole flute has better fuller sound and C-foot makes the tone brighter (B-foot makes the tone darker). Open-hole flutes are preferred mostly in the United States. Generally, European players focus more on the tone quality, and American players - on technique and possibilities of its enhancement.
The uniqueness of this flute is the reason why it is priced higher than some others on eBay or in the Flute Center NYC. The case is new Yamaha-made. Free shipping with BIN only, otherwise calculated on 5 lbs.
