Description

You are bidding on a Gretsch Cast Bell Brass Snare Drum.  The model is S1-6514BB-BR.   Size is 6.5X14.  The drum has 30 degree bearing edge and die cast hoops.  Condition is nearly new except Aquarian Focus X coated head has been played on a few sessions by yours truly.  Great recording drum...Yes, Gretsch produced real cast bell brass drums and this one is a beauty.   Bell Brass is a prized material because it is both Warm and .  Sound is somewhere between wood and metal.    The alloy (Bell Brass) is actually a bronze with copper and tin.   This alloy is very musical and used to make cymbals and bells (hence the name).     And because this shell material is cast the shell has porosity (tiny air bubbles) which dampen out overtones for a very pure musical tone    It's somewhat like the difference between a wooden baseball bat and an aluminum one.     (imagine the Crack vs.  the Ring when you hit the sweet spot).     The sound of Bell Brass is often described as a "wood metal hybrid" or "best of both worlds" because the porosity gives a warmth you don't usually hear with metal drums.

I think these retailed for $999 back in the day.  That's a huge discount off the Tama Cast Bell Brass drums which cost 2X - 6X as much.   I am pricing it to sell at $799.   Please don't try to low ball me on this one - this is not a toy drum.  If you want a cheap rolled brass drum there are many available for less than $250.      Cast Bell Brass is the premium of all snare drum materials and this drum is priced accordingly. This drum is very heavy and will be carefully packed/double boxed and will ship fully insured.
