From my private collection:Klemt Echolette Tube Tape-Delay and Reverb Unit `NG 51´
Serial No. 14976 - Gold Series handcrafted
Made in Germany, 1964 incl. Operating Manual & Schematic This rare item is technically and optically in a very good shape. Everything works fine as it was just fixed and reconditioned in the repair shop of Bobby Staedel, who is the German expert in vintage gear, especially in these tape-delays.
He checked all tubes, adjusted the tape drive, changed the condensers and adjusted and degaussed the sound heads. So you can imagine that it works like a new one.Even The Beatles used one of these units during their famous shows in Hamburg in the early sixties and on later tours. You can see it in youtube: left besides John. But now, 52 years later, most of these tape-delays are in a pretty bad shape, due to bugs in the tape-drive or problems with the sound heads. Though those lucky guys, who own a good one, can get the great benefits out of it.
They have no problems in producing sounds like those from The Shadows, The Ventures and The Spotnicks, as well as those from David Gilmour or Brian Setzer.
Songs like `Apache´, `Walk don´t run´, `All along the watchtower´ and all that Rockabilly stuff are featuring that special tape delay-sound. No up to date digital gear will give you the chance to achieve such sounds! Also Jeff Beck recently bought such two!! Echo-machines from Echolette Guru Bobby Staedel (please see last picture, Bobby and Jeff) If you want hear such an echo machine NG 51: sound example on youtube:
or orKlemt Echolette NG51 von Andy Tielman 1965 all recordings with a Echolette NG51, Fender Stratocaster, Vox AC15. This unit belonged to Andy Tielman 1966. now it has been restored and works with perfect sound.
Specs:20 inch (51cm) tape-loop, that feeds 6 sound heads. Every head is adjustable in it´s volume and you got two tape speeds. So you get an incredibly wide range of different delay effects. Additionally the unit can produce a great reverb effect and brings the warmth of a pure tube-circuit into your music.
There are two inputs for microphone and guitar, each with volume- and tone-control. A third input for Keyboard and Organ. Not regulated. .
The inputs and the output got so called `DIN´ 3 pin-jacks. By request I will add two special cable with 3pin-DIN plugs on one side and standard phone jacks on the other. So you won´t have any difficulties in connecting the unit to your equipment.
Additionally you will get 2 second tapes, that will work for about 200 hours. And - of course - I´ll won´t forget the power cable:-)
A special feature of the unit is the so called `magic eye´ level meter. It will be an eyecatcher in your digital equipment and will show you, when your sound turns from clean to distorted.
