Up for sale, a 1953 Gibson Console Grande double neck lap steel in nice original condition and in perfect working order. This is a very rare model here in the UK and even in the USA as most you see are either really tatty or have been messed with over the years. I purchased this in the USA around 10 years ago. Of course you can't speak of the Console Grande without mentioning its claim to fame as the model of console steel used by Don Helms to back Hank Williams Sr., and the tone and depth from the original P-90 pickups is truly spectacular. With a solid figured maple body, this steel has great attack and top end, and the original pickups have plenty of midrange fullness and glassy snap to push a tube amp to the brink of sweet overdrive, perfectly balancing the need for clarity and character in your steel tone.Both necks are remarkably clean, with transparent medium grey playing surfaces and dot inlays. On the headstocks, all of the original Kluson open-geared tuning machines are intact and turn very smoothly with straight shafts. The pick ups are the original P90's, The hardware is all in great condition with stock molded black pickup covers, chrome bridge covers, and an aluminum control plate with original short amber speed knobs. The "Console Grande" decal is also in very nice condition, and even the original top hat switch tip is present! All four legs are included and store in a canvas zip bag.The Gibson stores securely in the original brown Lifton case, this was obviously a touring musicians as there are so many old US state stickers on the outside of the case which I think really gives this tons of mojo, the case still has it's original handle but both the hinge parts of the locks locks have broken off and need replacing.There is a slight split at each end between the two levels which has never bothered me but could easily be repaired. Please see the photos.I would prefer the winning bidder to collect this in person but if that is not possible I can arrange courier delivery and pay cash on collection.UK mainland delivery would be £50 to most parts.
