Up for sale, a 1969 Gibson ES-335TD in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Finished in the original gloss walnut nitro lacquer and featuring the original pair of patent sticker T Top humbuckers, this is a particularly clean and soulful vintage Gibson. The guitar is also 100% original aside from a clean refret and new tuner ferrules. This guitar still has the feel and attention to detail of the pre-Norlin era instruments, although it was manufactured in the transition between companies, with the earlier orange oval label, as well as a small volute and "Made in USA" text that would be hallmarks of the next era of Gibson production.Tonally, this Gibson delivers the goods, and the bridge pickup is clear, defined, and plenty warm, with a surprising amount of chime and punch. With both pickups engaged it's easy to dial in an ideal rhythm tone that has just enough percussive cut and roundness, and with the neck pickup singled out, things fatten up nicely, yet stay clear. The pickups are very well balanced, reading 7.82k ohms in the bridge position and a whopping 7.91k at the neck. With semi-hollowbody maple body construction and a three-piece mahogany neck, the tone balances the immediacy of the center block and crisp top end of the maple with the soft bloom of the hollow construction and thicker, rounder sounds attributed to mahogany. The guitar balances well on a strap and weighs in at 7lbs 12oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've strung this ES-335 with roundwound 11-50 strings and dialed in the action and intonation. The neck has a medium C shaped profile that has a more slender feel down at the nut but grows significantly in depth and roundness as you move into the higher registers of the fretboard. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearl small block inlays and a professional refret with fretwire that has the same width as what would have been installed at the factory, but with more height and crown (a major bonus for most players). The new frets are virtually flawless, with plenty of height and only the faintest wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7, with no notable wear further up the neck. The nut width is 1 9/16", which is the more slender width used by Gibson from '65 through the 1970s on the ES models. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe double line/double ring tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly with their original tulip buttons. The guitar was at one time fitted with Grovers before the original gears were reinstalled, and as such, we've substituted a set of StewMac conversion bushings to keep the Kluson shafts secure with no wiggle room in the post holes. All of the electronics work as they should, with original patent sticker T Top humbuckers and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The wiring harness features original pots and Sprague "Black Beauty" tone caps for a sweet and smooth treble roll off as you turn the tone controls. Visible through the bass side F hole, the original orange Gibson label is intact, with clean handwritten model and serial number info which matches the number imprinted on the back of the headstock. The hardware is completely original, including the patent number ABR-1 bridge, chrome trapeze tailpiece, witch hat knobs, pickguard, and switch tip.Cosmetically, this is a particularly clean and well cared for vintage example, with zero cracks or repairs and a 100% original nitro lacquer walnut finish. There are a few light scuffs and dings on the back of the instrument, as well as some light finish checking. The face of the guitar shows sparingly little wear and the neck profile is glossy and smooth, with only one tiny ding on the profile behind the 3rd fret which doesn't affect playability in the slightest. This ES-335TD is a very original, well maintained, and professionally setup!
The original hardshell case with plush purple interior is included.
