The Biwa is a Japanese short-necked fretted lute, often used in narrative storytelling. The Biwa is the chosen musical instrument of Benten, goddess of music, eloquence, poetry and education in Japanese Shinto.Chikuzen Biwa is one of types of biwa originally played in Chikuzen (present Fukuoka prefecture) since modern period (Meiji Era). Mosou Biwa is the origin of Chikuzen Biwa and Satsuma Biwa, too. Biwas are traditionally made from Japanese mulberry, although other hard woods such as Japanese zelkova are sometimes used in its constructions. Due to the slow growth of the Japanese mulberry, the wood must be taken from a tree at least 120 years old and dried for 10 years more before construction can begin. This is the reason why new instruments' price may range from 3000 USD up to 4000. This is a wonderful used 4 strings Japanese Chikuzen Biwa in good shape available for sale at a very good price. Signs of use are clear but the instrument is in general good conditions. Case, strings and bachi (plectrum) are NOT included. Biwas are traditionally built in 3 blocks in order to get their transport easier: packaging and shipping will be accurately done in order to avoid any kind of damage. Assembling the 3 parts constituting Biwa is very easy.  Detailed pictures show the real estate of the instrument, feel free to contact me for any further information.
