Description

This instrument dates from the 1760s, and I've been advised this is likely by the well-known London maker Rauche.Restorations are visible but reasonably well-blended, all existing belly cracks filled with spruce and cleated, all loose braces reglued. I chose to not alter the existing tuning peg hole sizes (likely somewhat larger than original and certainly larger than optimal for fine-tuning metal strings) but rather I fit modern pegs to match existing holes, leaving a more thorough restoration for someone else. I will include the incomplete set of (original or contemporary?) pegs which came with the instrument, can serve as models for reproductions should you wish to fully restore.Maple body, black-dyed hardwood fingerboard, bone pins. The instrument is stable and playable, and is an interesting example of this well-known maker's work if in fact by him. I would call it more a collectors piece than a 'player', given the delicate condition of something this old. You can hear it being played on this youtube video (the images include the instrument both before and after repairs were made to the belly): https://youtu.be/pD6vCFK3oXYInstrument is sold as is and is non-returnable. Please ask me any questions and request and pictures that might give you more needed information, I'll do my best.Buyer is responsible for insurance for shipping. If you win the bid, please pay first for the instrument and wait for me to calculate shipping once I have your address, and then pay the shipping charge I communicate to you. Thanks. I will leave it to you to choose the cost/reliability/insurability variables that come with each carrier.
