This is a vintage (serial number GH740023) Conn 8DS Double French Horn. The 8D is Conn's large bore professional symphony double horn, and is built from solid nickel silver in a Kruspe wrap style. This horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. The ring has standard Alexander threads, so the bell can be interchanged if the player desires a slightly different sound. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there is some very light isolated scratching throughout the horn, as well as some very light rippling on the bell tail. There is also some deeper scratching on the bell flare. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wished for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a hardshell screw bell case in very good condition, and a mouthpiece in good condition. How the horn plays: Full, round, dark sound; smooth tone; the F and Bb side timbres match well; the low and high registers speak fairly well; the horn is responsive
