Description

Selling a 1950 gibson southern Jumbo acoustic guitar. Its a project where the top and headstock were both stripped, and the binding was pulled off the neck. This is the real deal This guitar was brought to several vintage guitar shops in Chicago in the past couple weeks and this is what I found out. 1950 gibson southern  jumbo, original finish on the back and sides of the body and the back of the neck ( with beautiful checking, see pic). Neck was never reset, Small crack on the back (aprox 3.5" long ) that was patched from the inside apparently long ago. Rest of the guitar has no cracks. BEAUTIFUL Brazilian!! original bridge and fretboard. This guitar was strung up with nut that still needs to be finished and was compared against 30+ top guitars at Chicago Music exchange and honestly this guitar destroyed them. Period. People smiled and laughed when they heard this compared to the others.. terms sounds like a Cannon, ridiculous, woody, incredible..  were being thrown around. Needless to say, this has "the sound". Deep, resonant, multilayered sound is here in spades.Projects like this do not come up often. Please send me any questions. Dont spend $7-10k for the sound.. this one is a great one. Some measurements are, neck thickness at the 1st fret, .920", at the 12th 1.050", neck width at 1st 1.660", just over 4.2 lbs.
Dont miss out!!  Includes a very old case that needs some love. In pretty rough shape but it is very old. Latches and handle work. If you are in Chicago and want to check it out. Just let me know!

On Oct-04-16 at 18:02:37 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer some of the questions. -The neck is true and perfectly straight, no twist. The truss rod works perfectly. The action on the high E from the 12 fret is .058" and the low E .084". It plays wonderfully as it is. -Im not selling because its a piece of junk. I'm selling because I don't play steel string acoustics, and I'd love for someone to get it refinished and love it. Its from a special time and deserves to be played. There is no more wood like this and there will never be again.-No buzzes or weird vibrations. It is however a 66 year old guitar and has some bumps and bruises. -No I wont sell it for $500.- no I wont trade you for your used gear or your 1984 ford escort-Its also for sale locally in Chicago so If it sells locally first, I will delete the auction. Thanks

On Oct-04-16 at 18:45:32 PDT, seller added the following information: More questions. -The nut is cut to a standard string spacing 1-13/32". - the top is scraped/sanded bare. There is no finish on it. It is still very thick.. It has not been sanded thin and or has uneven spots. The original lacquer has aged yellow and the yellow can be clearly seen on the binding.-I believe the pickguard is original as I think you can see the original darkburst paint scheme underneath. - again, it plays and sounds wonderful as is. The top should be finished and sealed as you do not want the wood wicking oil/dirt, etc into the top, but the guitar is completely playable as is.

On Oct-04-16 at 20:40:45 PDT, seller added the following information: - the neck shape is a typical 50's gibson, Nice thick round "C" shape. The neck profile and depth has not been altered at all. Just the binding was removed at some point and the neck was blended into that on the sides of the fretboard. It feels fantastic. The FON (Factory order number) is clearly marked on the block under the neck. These guitars did not have a serial number. The neck width at the nut is ~1.628". -the headstock face was sprayed with nitrocellulose laquer. Gibson logo was put on. - I call this a "project", but honestly you could do a full restore or just play it as is. Some projects on ebay are disasters.. this is a fully functioning, great playing, amazing sounding instrument as is.  -if I enjoyed playing a steel string acoustic at all, I would NEVER sell this...EVER. I don't want it to sit in a case. It needs to be played and enjoyed. It was still a tough decision to sell just because of how remarkable it sounds. - the bridge is not lifting nor is the top bulged at the bridge. Its nice and flat.
